The AI tech landscape
While a significant number of European startups and scaleups (around 200K) have embraced AI, only a small fraction (15K) are actively leveraging it to generate business value. This group of AI adapters and creators, though representing just 3% of the European startup scene, contribute a substantial 13% to the ecosystem's overall value. A majority (55%) of these companies report a positive return on their AI investments.
The European startup community is optimistic about its role in the global AI landscape, with 59% believing they have the potential to lead. However, challenges remain, notably concerning data quality, ethical considerations, and regulatory complexities. European startups value openness and often rely on AI technologies from outside the continent, particularly North America. To further enhance AI adoption in Europe, startups believe that addressing regulatory frameworks and improving data quality and availability would be the most impactful measures.
